The purpose of this toolkit is to encourage safe and efficient wood burning practices during the heating season through use of toolkit materials in media and education campaigns.

How to Use This Toolkit
We encourage users to get creative with our materials. This could mean something as simple as sharing one of our sample posts, or as hands-on as partnering with a local organization to host a Burn Wise campaign in your community. Here are some specific ideas for each group below:
State, local, tribal agencies, non-profits, and businesses

Use social media to share Burn Wise messaging that fits your organization’s mission. Visit our social media resources for premade posts and graphics.

October is Fire Prevention Month! Spread the word. You could partner with your local fire department and/or local certified chimney sweeps. A good resource to find local chimney sweeps is the Chimney Safety Institute of America or the National Chimney Sweep Guild.

Share our article, or one of our videos with local media for placement or follow-up pieces.

Conduct outreach to community-based organizations like health centers, libraries, parks, and recreation centers. Use our printable materials at your event!

Include or link to the article in your community newsletter, blog, and website.
