EPA Region 9 Issued Construction Approvals: Radionuclides
EPA’s Pacific Southwest (Region 9) implements and enforces federal environmental laws in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, the Pacific Islands, and 148 Tribal Nations.
The Clean Air Act requires the EPA to regulate airborne emissions of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) from a specific list of industrial sources called "source categories." Standards known as the "National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants" (NESHAPs) dictate specific regulatory limits for source categories that emit radionuclides. Pursuant to the Clean Air Act (40 CFR §61.08), EPA has authority to grant construction approvals for sources that are subject to these requirements. For more information on these regulatory requirements and how EPA regulates radiation, please see EPA’s website on Radiation Regulations and Laws.
The approvals listed below are for actions starting in 2015. For information related to approvals to construct sources of radionuclides pursuant to 40 C.F.R. §61.08 issued or modified before 2015, please contact Ryder Freed ([email protected]).
