The Future of Mobility, Final Report to the Clean Air Act Advisory Committee, February 2022
Approved for submittal to EPA by the Clean Air Act Advisory Committee, February 2022.
From September 2019 until June 2021, the Mobile Sources Technical Review Subcommittee (MSTRS) met regularly to develop a series of insights and recommendations that sought to address the impact of a wide array of new technologies, fuels, and transportation trends on the air pollution, climate, and other environmental impacts of the transportation sector. The 35 members of the MSTRS self-selected into one of four work groups that explored a series of questions that were designed to consider a range of future mobility paradigms in each of the following four categories: Vehicle Technology, Fuels, Personal Mobility, and Goods Movement. These meetings and discussions, along with additional research and analysis throughout the process, enabled the Subcommittee’s members from state, local, and regional government, the automotive and related industries, fuel and energy companies, environmental and other public interest organizations, and academia to develop the work presented in the Future of Mobility report. The Future of Mobility report compiles and summarizes the research, analysis, discussions, and recommendations of the four work groups. The MSTRS chair provided a presentation to the Clean Air Act Advisory Committee (CAAAC) in December 2021 that summarizes the information and recommendations in this report. In February 2022 the CAAAC voted to adopt the report and present it to EPA.
