First EPA Region 3 Climate Workshop
November 2022
Return to: Climate Change in the EPA Mid-Atlantic Region
EPA Region 3 hosted a two-day Climate Workshop on November 9th and 10th. The workshop was an extension of the climate track in the May EPA Mid-Atlantic 2022 Summit and was intended to identify where EPA Region 3 and our state/jurisdiction (DC, DE, MD, PA, VA, WV) and Tribal partners have complementary climate adaptation and hazard mitigation priorities. The workshop's ultimate goal was to identify areas where we can work together to build climate resilience across the Mid-Atlantic region. We hope that this will serve as the first in a series of workshops and discussions with key partners throughout the region as we listen and learn across sectors and levels of government.
On November 9, partners within the EPA Mid-Atlantic Region provided 15-minute overviews of their climate priorities based on a climate action plan and/or any climate-relevant portions of a hazard mitigation plan.
The priorities outlined on Day 1 fed into breakout discussions with select participants on Day 2. For this workshop, breakout groups centered around one of three topic areas: Air, Water Infrastructure & Hazard Mitigation, and Ecosystems. This year, we focused on state-level, federal, and tribal partners, and will continue to broaden participation in successive workshops. Each breakout group discussed priorities presented on Day 1 and identifies opportunities for future collaboration. Through this discussion we hope to build and strengthen collaborative efforts on climate resilience and amplify climate action across the Mid-Atlantic.
