Presentation on Preliminary Wastewater Treatment

This presentation focuses on preliminary treatment of municipal wastewater. The topics covered include screening, comminutors, grit removal, and flow equalization. Description of the unit operations are provided along with potential operating problems. Pictures of actual treatment units are shown. In addition, troubleshooting is covered at the end of the presentation.

Larry W. Moore, PH.D., P.E., WEF Fellow, Professor Emeritus of Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering Department, University of Memphis - Dr. Moore received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of South Alabama in 1973 and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Mississippi State University in 1974 and 1983, respectively. He worked with the Mississippi Bureau of Pollution Control from 1974 to 1978, writing NPDES permits for industries. From 1983 until 2018, Dr. Moore taught undergraduate and graduate environmental engineering courses and conducted applied research at the University of Memphis. He has 45 years of wastewater treatment plant design and troubleshooting experience. During that time, he has assisted approximately 400 industries and cities with various wastewater problems.
