Tribal Underground Storage Tank Compliance Protocols
Following a successful three-year pilot program, the EPA adopted measures to improve compliance at Tribal underground storage tank (UST) facilities. The Tribal UST Compliance Protocols aim to achieve this goal through two key mechanisms: (1) ensuring Tribal governments are provided with information on, and notice of announced inspections, and opportunities for consultation on compliance assistance, noncompliance, and possible enforcement responses; and (2) utilizing expedited enforcement tools when appropriate. These expedited tools result in a faster return to compliance and lower penalties than traditional enforcement.
