National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory Library Services
The National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory (NVFEL) is part of the Office of Transportation and Air Quality (OTAQ), which is responsible for carrying out laws to control air pollution from motor vehicles, engines used in nonroad equipment, and their fuels. OTAQ develops national standards for emissions; evaluates emission control technologies; tests vehicles, engines, and fuels; and determines compliance with federal emission and fuel economy standards. OTAQ also develops inspection and maintenance (I/M) programs, and market and transportation incentive and voluntary emission reduction programs.
The NVFEL Library supports OTAQ staff by providing access to reliable, relevant, and quality information and data that are critical to carrying out EPA’s mission. The NVFEL Librarians respond to requests from EPA, other government agencies, and the public in the areas of transportation-related air emissions, fuels, and other pertinent subjects related to the automotive and engine manufacturing, and petroleum refining and distribution industries.

About the Collection
The NVFEL Library collection began with a concentration in the fields of automotive / transportation engineering, air pollution from mobile sources, fuel economy and data processing. Today these disciplines as well as technological innovations in these fields continue as the focus for collection development at NVFEL. Holdings are comprised of books, periodicals, technical papers, and legislative materials to support these disciplines.
