History of the Library
The Gulf Ecosystem Measurement and Modeling Division Library is located in a Creole style cottage built in the early 1900s. The building is one of the oldest on site, dating from 1906 - 1925 when the Pensacola Quarantine Station occupied the island. The facility was expanded in 1979 by enclosing a side porch and again in 1992 by adding a room to the back. Enclosed floor space now measures approximately 1,450 square feet.
