Summary
A soda ash manufacturing facility is any facility that produces soda ash by calcining trona [Na3(CO3)(HCO3)•2(H2O)], calcining sodium sesquicarbonate [Na3H(CO3)2], or by using a liquid alkaline feedstock process that directly produces carbon dioxide (CO2).
In the context of the soda ash manufacturing sector, “calcining” means the thermal/chemical conversion of the bicarbonate (HCO⁻3) fraction of the feedstock to sodium carbonate (Na2CO3).
