Cleanup Status
This facility is one of EPA Region III’s high priority Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) corrective action sites. On August 11, 1995, EPA determined that both the Human Exposures Under Control and the Migration of Contaminated Groundwater Under Control Environmental Indicators have been met. EPA is currently evaluating the information to determine if all of the corrective action requirements have been met.

A federal Corrective Action Order was issued in 1992 for excavation and capping of a soil area contaminated with heavy metals. The construction of the cap was completed in 1994. The capped, area at this site will not be disturbed. Groundwater under this site will not be used for potable purposes. The land will be used for non-residential purposes, only.
In May 2003, this Bethlehem Steel site, as well as other operating sites were sold to International Steel Group.
Contaminants at this Facility
Contaminant of concern are waste slag and furnace dusts containing cadmium, chromium, and lead. Groundwater contaminants include selenium, lead and mercury.
Institutional and Engineering Controls at this Facility
While there are no institutional controls, groundwater monitoring and caps over landfills.
Land Reuse Information at this Facility
The site is under continued use.

RCRA Corrective Action activities at this facility have been conducted under the direction of EPA Region 3.
