Selected Application Summary
The selected application will support the state of Oregon to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by targeting Oregon’s three largest GHG emissions contributors: transportation, buildings, and waste. The grant will fund projects aligned with the state’s goals of creating sustainable and transformative approaches to tackling the climate crisis and reducing emissions. The financial support of the grant will accelerate Oregon’s emission reduction efforts through programs such as a) heavy-duty and light-duty electric vehicles and charging rebates, b) incentives for building decarbonization and smart development, c) programs to reduce food waste, and d) programs to reduce methane from landfills.
Key Things to Know
Based on information provided by the applicant, the selected project will deliver the following benefits to reduce GHGs and support communities 1:
- Reduce GHG emissions from the transportation sector by installing charging infrastructure for both light- and heavy-duty vehicles and offering zero emission rebates for vehicles of all classes, such as through Oregon’s Medium-Heavy-Duty ZEV Rebate Program.
- Provide nearly 4,500 electric vehicle rebates to lower-income households.
- Improve the efficiency of existing and new buildings including the construction of 10,000 affordable, high-efficiency rental housing units.
- Expand weatherization assistance for nearly 3,000 homes prioritizing environmental justice communities and low-income households.
- Install 12,000 heat pumps in homes and community buildings.
- Invest in composting, food waste recovery infrastructure, and landfill methane controls at landfill sites.
Activities in the selected application reflect measures in Oregon’s Priority Climate Action Plan (pdf) (6.9 MB).
1 The emission reduction estimates, as well as the descriptions of measures and benefits, were summarized from information provided by the applicant. These estimates, along with the award amount, are subject to change.
EPA will award grants to selected applicants once they meet all legal and administrative requirements. As of July 2024, grants are expected to be awarded by the end of 2024.
About EPA's Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) Implementation Grants
Authorized under the Inflation Reduction Act, EPA’s CPRG program will provide nearly $5 billion in grants for states, local governments, Tribes, and territories to develop and implement ambitious plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollution while benefitting low-income and disadvantaged communities.
