EPA's Efforts in Eurasia
EPA has been engaged in scientific and technical cooperation with Russia, Central Asia, the Caucasus and Ukraine for over 40 years. As appropriate, information exchange and engagements continue on environment, science and technology issues. EPA has hosted delegations and sent EPA experts abroad to share information about environmental issues where EPA has experience and expertise.
- The document "Dark Past, Bright Future: Environmental Cooperation in Central and Eastern Europe and the New Independent States (EPA 160-K-98-002)" provides background information on environmental engagements in this region and Eastern Europe in the 1990s. The report recounts some of the formidable environmental problems faced by Central and Eastern Europe and the New Independent States in 1989, and provides examples of the ways in which EPA partnered to help address these challenges. In the process, EPA contributed to the region's recovery and its goal of sustainable development, as well as to the strengthening of new democratic institutions.
Presently, partners from Eurasia are participants in a number of international efforts where EPA engages, such as the Global Methane Initiative, Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles, and the Global Alliance to Eliminate Lead Paint.
