EPA provides opportunities for the public to provide scientific input on assessment materials at all IRIS-sponsored public webinars and workshops. At IRIS public events, EPA supports participation in open discussions through in-person attendance (when available), by webinar, or by phone (teleconference).
EPA also encourages the public to provide written comments on IRIS Program materials through our Dockets. The release of materials for public comment is announced on the IRIS Program website, via the IRIS bulletin, and also announced in the HERA bulletin. - IRIS Dockets under assessment
Through the Federal Government Docket (regulations.gov), EPA opens a new docket for all IRIS assessment in development. EPA accepts public comments on IRIS assessment materials submitted to the docket throughout the life cycle of development. Links to the dockets are provided with documents announced for public comment, on meeting pages and from the IRIS Docket page. For most assessments, public comment periods are open for approximately 30-60 days following the release of a Federal Register Notice.
EPA asks commenters to provide contact information in their docket submissions to promote an open dialogue on issues.
