Compliance incentives and auditing encourages the regulated community to assess its regulatory obligations and self-disclose non-compliance. Voluntary self-disclosure and prompt correction of environmental violations can reduce or eliminate certain penalties.
Compliance monitoring ensures that the regulated community follows environmental laws and regulations through on-site visits by qualified inspectors and by reviewing the information EPA or a state/tribe requires to be submitted.
