Public Notice: EPA Begins Fifth Review of Thermo-Chem, Inc. Superfund Site
Summary
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is conducting a five-year review of the Thermo-Chem, Inc. Superfund site, located at 4331 Evanston Road in Muskegon. The Superfund law requires regular checkups at sites that have been cleaned up—with waste managed on-site—to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. This is the fifth five-year review of the site.
EPA’s cleanup of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds and pesticides included excavation, treatment, and removal of contaminated soil, sludge, and debris. Groundwater extraction and treatment systems, soil vapor extraction and air sparging are still operating at the site. EPA has also established institutional controls to ensure the remedy is not disturbed.
More information is available at Hackley Library, 316 W. Webster St., Muskegon; at the Egelston Townshjp Hall, 5428 E. Apple Ave.; and at Thermo-Chem, Inc Superfund site. EPA will accept comments until May 30, and will complete the review in July.
The five-year review is an opportunity for you to tell EPA about site conditions and any concerns you have.
