Public Notice: Proposed Settlement with Municipality of Skagway for Clean Water Act Violations in Alaska
Summary
EPA is providing notice of a proposed administrative penalty settlement with the Municipality of Skagway (respondent) for violations of the Clean Water Act at its wastewater treatment facility located in Skagway, Alaska.
EPA alleges that the respondent failed to comply with its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit (#AK0020010) at its wastewater treatment facility. The permit covers discharges of pollutants into Taiya Inlet.
Alleged violations include effluent limit exceedances, failure to submit monthly discharge monitoring reports in a timely manner, and failure to submit required non-compliance reports.
This action is being simultaneously commenced and concluded in a legal document called an Expedited Settlement Agreement. Under the proposed agreement (see "Related Documents"), the Municipality of Skagway will pay a civil penalty of $1,613.
