Peer Review of 2024 Draft Risk Evaluation for 1,3-Butadiene

1,3-Butadiene is undergoing risk evaluation under the Toxic Substances Control Act. EPA is planning a virtual public meeting for the Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC) to review the draft risk evaluation for 1,3-butadiene in early 2025. 

On September 18, 2024, EPA published a Federal Register notice requesting nominations of prospective ad hoc expert reviewers to assist the SACC with its peer review. Nominations are due no later than October 18, 2024, via email to the SACC mailbox: [email protected]. After reviewing the nominations, EPA plans to make a list of interested and available candidates under consideration as prospective ad hoc reviewers available for public comment in docket EPA-HQ-OPPT-2024-0425 and through the SACC website. 

EPA will be soliciting comments from the reviewers on the approach and methodologies used in the draft risk evaluation. The SACC’s peer review will inform the Agency’s final risk evaluation under TSCA.
