About EPA's UIC Program
EPA has direct implementation responsibility for Class I injection wells in Alaska. Class I injection wells dispose of fluids beneath any aquifers which could serve as current or future underground sources of drinking water.
Waste injection is one alternative to other fluid management practices, including surface discharge and/or transportation for treatment and disposal.
