20 Years Of Progress Closing LUST Sites
EPA’s presentation depicts progress each state and territory made in closing leaking underground storage tank (LUST) sites over the 20-year period from 2003 to 2023. The maps in the presentation display the percentage of sites closed in 5-year intervals, and shows that as of 2023, 38 states closed over 90 percent of their LUST sites. Addressing the LUST sites remaining to be cleaned up continues to be a high priority for EPA and our state, territorial, and tribal partners.
