Learn About P3 Program
EPA’s P3 Program
P3 stands for People, Prosperity and the Planet. Through this EPA program, teams of college students can benefit people, promote prosperity and protect the planet by designing environmental solutions that move us toward a sustainable future. Since 2004, the P3 program has involved thousands of students and provided more than $18M in funding for over 800 projects, at more than 330 institutions in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

About the P3 Program
The P3 Program has been awarding teams of university and college students an opportunity to take a leading and collaborative role in conducting scientific and engineering research. P3 is a competitive grants program that provides teams of undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to receive a two-year award of up to $75,000 to gain invaluable experience through classroom learning, laboratory and field work to address environmental issues. Cumulatively, these projects promote a shift towards more environmentally benign products, processes, and systems with the aim of improving quality of life, promoting economic prosperity, and protecting the planet. P3 strives to continue this charge.
National Student Design Expo
The National Student Design Expo (NSDE) is an annual event that takes place during the second year of the award and features the P3 teams’ technology-based designs. The event serves not only to showcase the teams’ innovative ideas and solutions to environmental challenges, but it also creates professional collaboration opportunities by connecting these emerging scientists and engineers with experts from other EPA programs, government agencies, and advanced technology companies. Additional event benefits include public education and participation, research review, and scientific networking opportunities.
