CHP Tools
EPA has developed several tools for policy makers, policy advocates, energy managers, facility owners, project developers, and other interested parties to help evaluate the opportunity for CHP. The tools are designed for users with an elementary to moderate understanding of CHP technology and its terminology but are easy to use. Learn more about CHP.
These tools will help users estimate the environmental benefits of CHP and evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of a potential CHP system.
CHP Energy and Emissions Savings Calculator
This tool calculates and compares the estimated fuel consumption and air pollutant emissions (CO2e, SO2, and NOX) of a CHP system and a comparable separate heat and power system (e.g., grid power and a boiler system).
CHP Screening Tool
This tool provides an initial “screen,” or preliminary assessment, of the economic feasibility of implementing a CHP system at a specific facility. View the full step-by-step process for developing CHP projects. The DOE CHP Technical Assistance Partnerships also provide technical assistance to assess CHP project feasibility.
